Experimental Research

problems before we even start

When trying to upload my audio for the audio section of my experimental practical I ran into some issues, I first tried to imbed it to the site via a video input but that didn't work and gave me the error to the right, I thought I had it when I tried to embed it as audio but it just gave me the same error.

I checked and the file isn't corrupted it runs in media player and uploads back into adobe software just fine.

After that I figured as it works in after effects it will probably work on YouTube, I tried to upload it there and it didn't work.

I re-rendered the video and tried it again to no avail.

I ended up recoding the screen in OBS with a little commentary over the top and uploaded it directly to wix, this time it worked perfectly to be honest I'm not sure  why.

Illustrator ppi

Problems with resolution

bp2g8blur.jpg.png

When creating assets in illustrator, i.e troop blocks and the flags I had an issue with exporting and formatting in terms of resolution, I quickly found out through watching a few YouTube videos that the reason my renders were coming out very low quality was because of the Pixels per inch count or ppi. I originally thought that I'd have to create the flags all over again in a separate document but luckily you can change the ppi whilst your working.

The default illustrator ppi made the images look really pixilated as the ppi is set to 70, I later learned the best setting for it is to be at is around 300, I made the change and that allowed me to output high resolution versions of the flags.

Map resolution (Again)

This time in after effects

So far I've had a few problems with resolution whilst animating in After Effects, Luckily they all have had easy enough fixes. The First was a problem that was literally fixed by pushing a single button.

The Image on the left is The map from after effects with the Continuous rasterizer button unchecked, and the right it with it checked, You may not be able to notice as these are screen shots but it made the result a lot clearer and less pixilated.

I found the tip on a website after looking up why the after effects file was so pixilated, This was a great help and if I hadn't of found it I have no idea what I would of done.

Resolution of Japan

bp2g8blur.jpg.png
Jap as is.PNG

In this screen capture of after effects you can clearly see the distinction between the map of Korea and the map of Japan, The reason Japan looks blurry is because the asset used to make it isn't part of the overall map and is actually about the same size as the entire map just downscaled to fit, I originally thought this would work fine and the only distinction between them would be that Japan is slightly more detailed, all of that is documented in the map creation section of my Pre production work. However there is defiantly a large disparity between the two with the stroke on japan not even showing up.

I'm a fan of how detailed Japan is as I spent a good deal of time on the map and I think if stroke want around the other parts of the map it may look okay, I have made a version of the map with Japan added on, so I plan to replace it with that tomorrow and see how it looks, This is shown below, The downside to using this is I know this version is a lot less detailed and defiantly wont look as polished, but if it removes the pixilation I'm going to have to use it.

Another way I plan to try is removing the stroke from the rest of the map as I said i think the map would look okay with out it this would be a effort to try and preserve the detail of Japan.

Update

It turns out I didn't need to do either of the options I outlined above. I found out though playing around with the camera tool (witch is what I use to animate the map) that It was in-fact a single setting that was messing up the resolution, and causing japan to be excessively blurry, It was in the settings of the camera the option to enable or disable depth of field.

Comparison

Before

After

Just from the thumbnail you can see the difference between the two, Quite honestly I'm not sure why this would of changed anything but it defiantly did, whilst the whole image is a lot clearer and more defined, you can still see a difference between Japan and the mainland although I would argue its not enough for me to change it at this point as I do actually like the look of it.

Background texture movement

This took me like an hour to figure out

I'm not sure when this started happening but the background texture layer wouldn't stay still, I pick whipped it to the camera layer so it should move with that basically making it not move at all, But at some point it started to move again, after around an hour of trying to resolve the issue I thought maybe it being a pre-comp was something to do with it. I took it out of the pre-comp layer and it worked instantly.

I really have no idea why this worked as I don't see why it being a pre-comp would change anything, but I'm happy I have it working how I want now.
